The Rathnam Teaching Studio Philosophy and Policies, Fall 2017

Welcome to my live and online lesson page!  I am excited and honored to be able to work with each of you!

During my 35 years performing on the concert stage, I have always had a passion and fascination for teaching the violin, at all stages of development.  Through over twenty summers at various music programs in the United States and abroad, I have had the opportunity to mentor and work with some of the greatest young talents one could hope to teach. There were also beginners, intermediate players and young professionals, all hoping to improve their technique and ability to clearly convey the music they were playing.

Between my private teaching studio, which began in Harrisburg in 1994, and my many faculty positions, over the past quarter century, I have had the fortune and pleasure to teach hundreds of students, some of whom now head string programs at our area schools, play in professional string quartets, symphony orchestras world wide , and several, who have gone on to international careers.

My philosophy has always been to offer all the same serious training, whether the student’s study was career track or avocational, a philosophy I keep in the studio to this day.  Also at the core, is the altruistic belief in the self-esteem, value and purpose which comes from doing something well, with discipline, enthusiasm, and most of all , LOVE.  If there is one thing I wish to keep most central, it is the LOVE for bringing music to the World with integrity.

My rates for private lessons are currently $75 per hour, $45 per half hour (for younger students up to the age of 8) and the rates of $60/$40 apply for distance learning, where I use Skype and Facebook Messenger as my current video platforms.  These rates are based on full time study.  Intermittent single lessons are $100 dollars an hour for live lessons and $85 for video lessons. Separate rates apply for masterclasses in person or by video conferencing .  Lessons are paid monthly via PayPal, at the time they are scheduled, in blocks of four or five lessons, depending on the month.  If a student cancels without notification, the lesson will not be made up, however, advance notice is allowed for illness, etc. and lessons will be made up.  The same applies for any lessons I need to reschedule. You can reach me HERE to discuss lessons and schedule.

LIMITED TIME FALL SPECIAL!!!
Prepay for a full semester (15 lessons) and take $10 OFF each hour of tuition or $5 OFF each half hour for the full semester.

I will look forward to meeting and working with you towards your or your young artists goals!

Sincerely,
Odin Rathnam
